How can i of got my account banned for three days for having a bad name? I've had the name ever since i got the game which was almost a year in a half ago, so why the sudden ban now?...As well how can i make a name then get it banned doesnt make much sence it shouldnt be able to be made then. THe name is Hump Masta which i didn't even meen it in a bad way, ive had it for my name for a lot of games starting with halo since you can "hump" ppl when they die. I dont know it doesnt make much sence to me i think they should at least give you a warning and give you the option to change it before you get banned.

All it means is that someone playing the game was offended and reported you.

Meh, someone reported you it seems, or your name got filtered out finally.

Unfortunately there's no statute of limitations on names that don't meet ANet standards.

Don't take this the wrong way, but say you killed someone, and 15 years later the law finally pins you for it...the elapsed time since the crime occurred in no way diminishes the fact of your guilt.

Was your in-game name Hump Masta? I could see a couple of possible problems with that name, but none that I'd report.

don't worry about it. You will be un-banned shortly and will be able to change your char's name.

Question: If you get banned and then 3 days later you are given the opportunity to change the name, do you lose any of the items in your characters inventory? In other words is it the same character in all but name?

Item customization isn't name based.

The server assigns a unique number that is used for item customization.

This is why people that delete a character and recreate a new one using the same name, are still unable to use the customized items from previous character of the same name.

You won't lose any weapons or anything. All of your weapons and anything you customize in the future will say customized for hump masta, but they will still work for new name. Happened to me for "Faq U Up".

I can only guess how frustrating it is, but ANet can't check to see if the name was intended to be offending or not... That would require asking the player directly, and that player could just lie.

I tried that once and found out it isn't name based.

QFT... Q...F...T...

I die a little inside when I see names like "Gangsta Boi" or "Dark Assassinator". Even more when the name is offensive -.-

It's not a forever ban, just a temp ban till you can come back and change the name. Think of it as a time-out.

The 3 day ban IS in fact the warning that your asking them to give you, harsh i know but its there.
About the name....the person who reported you should get off the internet FAST.
Following this, i would like to report the name of the drop Hardend Hump as offensive, please remove it.....

I was once banned and lost many gold and l33t items because Amy the Asskicker offended someone and they reported me. Than I deleted her not knowing the ban was temporary untill too late. I thought I was haxed when it said "You are already logged on" and I was sent to the log-in screen.

And yes, after the ban you get to change your name. I just made another char with the same name to spite them and lo and behold, no problems since.

Since the basic question has been answered, and any further conversation is just going to be a discussion on the merits of "bad" names and banning and such..
